Integrating Trauma
How We Can Help
Trauma Integration Programs advocates for the important and valuable work of social service providers. We offer support and training to help staff integrate trauma for increased resilience and greater effectiveness in communications. We offer a selection of training workshops including secondary trauma integration, de-escalation and emergency response procedures. We employ decades of direct trauma education experience to inspire each person to do their best work and be healthy and happy for the years ahead.
Secondary Traumatic Stress
A Workplace Hazard for Social Service Providers
Secondary traumatic stress impacts social service providers facilitating access to essential needs, while giving emotional support to their clients. It can feel overwhelming when issues of trauma and loss arise for providers, affecting their lives, both on and off the job. Clinical evidence shows that insomnia, depression and lowered immune function are some common symptoms and if secondary traumatic stress is not addressed all parts of life, from professional to personal can be affected.
Critical incident stress occurs after an event, for which we have no reference. The nervous system is activated and if stress is not properly processed, post- traumatic stress can result, with lasting emotional and physical effects. Secondary traumatic stress is a workplace hazard for people working closely with a traumatized population and it has the same potential impact on the body and psyche as direct post-traumatic stress.
